The food and coffee here definitely live up to the hype. My favorite is their smoked salmon tartine with an added soft egg. The pickled onions add just the right amount of tart and crunch. I feel like everything I’ve had here has been wonderful but there’s so many more things I want to try. I love eating outside on their patio area. It’s nice in the shaded areas. Parking can be impacted in this area. There’s a paid parking lot nearby but even that can get full. Some people might get lucky with a free street spot. And the owner is a true Long Beach jem 💎. So glad they found this spot to create a unique upscale (but still casual) dining experience for this neighborhood.

This place gave me mixed feelings, but overall it’s a very nice spot for a balanced breakfast. The food was fresh and tasty, and I really like the menu — it’s great that you can order a salad, though next time I would definitely get the dressing on the side. In my personal opinion, some prices feel a bit high, but I understand that it likely comes down to the location and the quality of the ingredients. I also wasn’t very impressed with the variety of signature drinks — there seemed to be only a few options, so I decided to go somewhere else for drinks that better matched what I wanted at the time. My spouse drank flat white, it was fine. Overall, it’s a pleasant place and we would likely come back if we visit the city again. One important thing to note is that parking can be a challenge. We were lucky to find street parking, but there is also a paid parking lot right next to the restaurant. We arrived right at opening, so there were plenty of spots, but within an hour it was completely full — so definitely plan your parking in advance.

A sleek restaurant with modern-classic interior design. That has soft classic rock playing in the background. They have a lounge area for those wanting to sit and sip away from their restaurant area. The staff is nice and fast with their services. I ordered the Cinnamon roll latte which was rich, smooth and creamy and not too sweet.

Alder & Sage is a nice place to have breakfast -- or just stop by for coffee. The menu is diverse and unique with both their drinks and food. Our group enjoyed a variety of dishes, including chilaquiles, crab-cake benedict, and a traditional two eggs, potatoes and toast. All members of our group gave thumbs up. Prices are about what you would expect for breakfast at a unique urban restaurant. Staff was very helpful, friendly and attentive. The restaurant can entertain large groups (we had a group of eight) due to its outdoor setting. And what better place to enjoy a breakfast on a warm Spring morning than outside than in a quiet environment.

If you’re really into baristas with booger hugger nose rings, then this place is for you! Also the food is delish, the coffee is pretty good and the pastries are yum yum… It’s an authentic Long Beach experience a little on the pricey side but in line with very good quality. Recommended but not required ;)
