Lulu’s has been mine and my coworkers’ favortie coffee spot in the Foggy Bottom area for awhile. The customer service is consistently excellent, the coffee is delicious, and the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. Our favorite barista, Sakiynah, is the absolute best. She is always so kind and lovely to chat with. My favorite drink to order is the Lulu’s Lavish Latte, half sweet--it comes with oat milk and lavender, and it’s SO good. The 12 oz iced drinks come in these cute almost-round little bottles (the 16 oz is pictured). They also frequently have delicious sweet treats available; the red velvet cake pop I had recently was amazing. The atmosphere is one of the things that makes Lulu’s so special. The outdoor back patio is a great space to get fresh air, relax, and enjoy the artwork on the walls on a nice day. Inside, there’s cozy seating too, including beautiful window bar seating and several small tables that sit 2-3 people. There are cute photos of the owner’s dog Lulu around the shop. They also sell lots of fun merch like stickers, candles, pins, and t-shirts. Truly one of my favorite local spots.

Hands down the best pistachio latte you’ll find. It’s not just pistachio syrup; the drink has actual pistachios blended in, which adds a really nice texture and depth of flavor. The space is cozy, with an especially inviting outdoor seating area. Zayd isn’t just an excellent barista; he’s also a great conversationalist, which makes the experience even better. I’m so glad I found this spot, and even more glad to support a business that stands firmly against genocide. Lulu’s Cafe is the real deal.

This cafe is so cute. It reminds me of some of the cafes I have been to abroad. The pistachio latte is delicious, not too sweet, but really tasty. My only complaint is that the service is inconsistent. On my first visit, the barista was attentive and polite. A friend and I came a week later, but this time the same barista was irritable and borderline rude. There were only a handful of people in the cafe, so I do not believe she was overwhelmed. Because I love the place, I came back a few weeks later around 2 pm. I waited at the counter for almost half an hour and there was no barista at all. Customers said there had been two people working about 10 minutes earlier but they had both stepped out. There was no sign to indicate anyone was coming back. 30 minutes is a long time to wait, so I left.

A nice atmospheric Cafe in the heart of DC. Coffee was very good and flavorful. Breakfast was delicious and Eastern traditional. The service was excellent, especially the owner and his mother, Ms Sou, who were so kind and hospitable. I believe this is the only cafe or restaurant in USA that has offered us a complimentary dessert during the last two years we have lived in this country. Shekinah is genuinely one of the best baristas I’ve ever met. Every single time I come in, she is warm, welcoming, and consistently kind — not just to me, but to everyone around her. You can tell she truly cares about people and puts love into everything she does, especially her drinks, which are always amazing. Honestly, she’s one of the main reasons I continue coming back. Sometimes I even stop by just to say hello because her energy is that positive and uplifting. In a world where customer service can feel rushed or impersonal, Shekinah stands out in the best way possible. I’ve seen some negative reviews about her and genuinely cannot relate to them at all. My experiences with her have always been wonderful. She brings kindness, authenticity, and passion into her work every day, and it deserves to be recognized. I also deeply admire how openly and compassionately she supports Palestine and humanitarian causes. She carries herself with empathy and heart, and it shows in the way she treats people. Thank you, Shekinah, for always making people feel welcome and appreciated. You make a bigger difference than you probably realize.
