As locals, we frequent this coffee shop regularly. Unfortunately, our experience today was completely unacceptable. From the moment my girlfriend and I walked in, an Asian woman (I'm not sure if she was the manager or owner) seemed to be watching us. We went to the register and ordered our usual: two 16oz strawberry matchas and two pastries. Since it was busy, we waited about 10 minutes for our order. The woman eventually called out, "Two strawberry matchas." As my girlfriend walked up to grab our drinks, the woman immediately said, "Uh-uh. These are not yours. You got the small ones. These are hers," while pointing to another customer standing nearby. That customer took our drinks, laughed, and quickly left. At that point, we knew something wasn't right. My girlfriend explained that we had ordered two 16oz strawberry matchas. The woman repeatedly insisted that we had ordered smaller drinks. She then went to the register, looked at a ticket that said "Jay," and asked my girlfriend, "You're Jay, right?" My girlfriend responded, "No, I'm Alexis, and we've been waiting longer than the girl who grabbed our drinks." The woman then asked, "You were here first?" despite the fact that she had seen us from the moment we entered. She still seemed unconvinced, so I pulled up the receipt that had been texted to my phone. After reviewing it, she finally said, "Oh, so she took your drinks. You guys had 16oz, and she had 12oz. Why would she do that?" By this point, we were frustrated. It felt like she had made an assumption about who my girlfriend was based solely on appearance and attached the wrong name to the wrong person. Even after realizing the mistake, she didn't apologize until she had another employee verify our order. The replacement matchas were made quickly, but by the time we received them, the pastries we had paid to have heated were cold. What should have been a simple correction turned into an unnecessary ordeal over drinks that we had already purchased. We've visited many times before and recognize this employee, so this wasn't a first-time misunderstanding. Ironically, the matcha itself was one of the best we've had from this location in quite a while. However, the way this situation was handled left a lasting impression. Because of today's experience, we will not be returning as customers. No one should have to argue for food and drinks they've already paid for, especially after being wrongly identified and treated with suspicion.

The coffee was exceptional. I had the cinnamon toast crunch latte and it definitely tasted like cinnamon toast crunch. I also had the pecan croissant and again, it was delicious. The vibes were great. A nice little hidden gem to grab a cup of coffee or get some work done.

This is one of the most unique coffee shops I’ve experienced so far. The drink selection are very unique. The drinks are made with fresh ingredients, herbs and spices! I tried the blueberry coffee tonic, over ice and it was amazing! I can’t wait to come back and try another drink. I also got a fresh croissant and OMG, it was so buttery and decadent! The customer service is very genuine too! I really enjoyed my experience here!

42 & Lawrence coffee shop has such a lovely vibe. What brought me in initially were the unique latte names and flavors. Love Potion is my favorite so far but every time I turn around there’s another flavor I want to try. The owner has clearly added her style and magic touch to the atmosphere inside. There are plants all around and unique sitting arrangements; a bar at the window with unique stools, a bar along the barista’s station, and several tables. There is also outside seating available too. Thank you so much for providing an intriguing and calming atmosphere to enjoy coffee in downtown!
